Description

A plate compactor has a heave steel plate mounted at the base of the machine. A petrol or diesel engine drives the plate up and down to compact loose material and create a compacted surface area.

The plate compactor is useful not only to contractors, but also to DIY’ers. These machines are invaluable for leveling and smoothing an area before constructing paving for driveways, patios, and retaining walls.

One of the main benefits of compacting before undertaking certain types of construction projects is increased durability and performance. Once the soil, gravel, or other types of ground have been sufficiently compacted, air pockets will have been pushed out. This means there is less risk of shifting or settling of the earth, which normally leads to cracks or damage in the completed project.

Hiring a plate compactor is more cost effective than purchasing one. It is also easier to use for smaller tasks than other types of compaction equipment such as rollers. Rollers are quite large and not always suitable if the workable space is limited, as with most home beased projects.

The plate compactor is also relatively easy to use and handle.
