An air powered rock drill is a tool specifically designed to break up rock.
Rock Drill – Air Powered
Description
A pneumatic, or air powered rock drill, is also often referred to as a jackhammer, or a demolition hammer. It is an air powered tool that uses the power of compressed air, to drive a chisel into rock, concrete, and masonry.
The internal hammer of the rock drill is driven up and down, sending a force downward, through the chisel, and into the material being broken up. This is a demolition tool, and is used for breaking through hard materials.
Generally, this machine should be operated by a strong person, as the weight of the tool, combined with the force of the hammering action, can be quite physically demanding.
The sound caused by this tool can be damaging to the ear so it is recommended that it is used only when operators are wearing personal protection and safety equipment. PPE includes as always, thick safety gloves, ear protection, safety glasses, and safety boots.
