Reciprocating Saw

Reciprocating Saw

A reciprocating saw is a type of saw that uses a push-and-pull motion of the blade to acheive a cut.

Description

Typically, the reciprocating saw is used in construction or demolition work. It has a large blade similar to the blade used in a jigsaw, and has a handle orientated to allow the saw to be comfortably used when working on vertical surfaces.

This saw has a foot at the base of the blade which is designed to counteract the pushing and pulling motion caused by the blade acting on the surface that is being cut.

The kind of reciprocating saw that we have available for hire is the hand held, corded type that is designed for heavier types of construction and demolition.

The reciprocating saw can be used by window fitters, construction workers, emergency services etc.

Safety Tips for using the reciprocating saw:

  • Always read the owners manual before operating any new machinery, or equipment that you are not familiar with.
  • Wear safety glasses, dust mask, ear muffs, gloves and sturdy, slip-resistant shoes. Keep your clothing and hair out of the way of the action of the blade. It is best to avoid flowing clothing and jewelry when working with this kind of saw.
  • Hold the saw firmly with both hands when operating. Keep the grips clean, and change the blade regularly to prevent dull cutting which can generate more friction.
  • Never cut through a concealed surface without checking.
  • Avoid operating the saw under wet conditions. Always try to ensure that the power outlet is switched off before you insert or remove the power plug from the outlet. Avoid tugging on the power cord where possible and never attempt to remove the plug from an outlet by pulling on the cord. Do not use the saw if you can see the cord is damaged.
  • Avoid using excessive force when operating the reciprocating saw. Work comfortably and do not over extend your reach as this could cause you to lose balance.
  • Turn off the power and unplug the saw before attempting to clean or change the saw blades. Do not leave the saw running whilst unattended.
  • As a standard do not use the machine when under the influence of medication, drugs, or alcohol.
  • Do not use the saw in the presence of flammable materials such as fuel or gas. Sparks from the saw action may ignite the substance causing a fire.
  • Always keep both hands on the saw when it is in operation.
