A power float, also known as a power trowel, is a construction tool used to obtain a smooth finish to concrete slabs.
Power Float
Description
The walk behind power float is so called, because of the shape and design of the machine. An operator would push the machine using the handle bars, in a similar fashion to the way a person might push a trolley.
The concrete smoothing action of the machine, is provided by the broad spinning blades at the base. These blades, which are housed neatly within a protective cage, glide over wet concrete in an attempt to create smooth and level finish.
One of the added benefits of power floating a concrete floor, is that it hardens the surface. This means that an area seeing heavy traffic can be expected to last longer.
This machine is generally used when the concrete is already relatively firm. If a human is able to walk on the surface of the concrete, without leaving an impression more than 3mm deep, the concrete is ready to be floated.
The finished product created by application of the power float can be enhanced by repeating the process with finer finishing blades.
